With the arrival of our newest coffee Blend Luna Llena—full moon—to our series of coffees inspired by the lunar phases, we revisit a very special coffee-growing region: a place close to our hearts in northern Nariño, the municipality of La Unión, where we laid down early Azahar roots back in 2011 during a very special visit.
This ensemble of micro lots from Nariño gave us the opportunity to get back in touch with partner producers like Esperanza Reyes, who besides being a lifelong coffee farmer, is also the current director of the extraordinary cooperative Coomerciacafé. Esperanza is one of the 39 producers whose hard work and dedication gave life to Luna Llena.
Coffees from La Unión are known for their unique cup profile. With a fruity, juicy acidity found in fruits such as grapefruit and green grapes, and a caramel-forward, creamy note reminiscent of the Melcocha—a typical, taffy-like dessert from this municipality, made of panela and peanuts—we welcome a delicious and pleasing combination in cup. A mix of traditional Colombian fruit-forward flavors, rounded out by a sweet and salty aftertaste.
To achieve this profile, our quality team and master roasters worked together to develop two different roast curves, one to accentuate the coffee’s acidity and the other to round out and strengthen the body and balance of the beverage.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to bask in the light of Blend Luna Llena, a coffee that will illuminate your palate with the flavors of southeastern Colombia.
